Sanjay-san is a song dedicated to the memory of friend and inspiration Sanjay Patel. Instrumental in Martin’s musical development, he was an evangelist for Acid house in the hazy late 80s. Right from the off, the rhythm is the driver – insistent and irresistible. The bass, when it comes, gives shape to this energy, moulding it into the perfect platform, from which Lefteri launches metallic shards of melody, undulating acid lines and celebratory bursts of synth that tie everything together.

A remix of spooky action sees martin hand over the baton to Aggelos Baltas, better known as Anatolian Weapons (Beats in Space, Dark Entries). Busy, fizzing synths lead the way and set the pace while a whip-crack snare holds the line with rigorous restraint. Before long, the bassline’s gentle peaks give way to heavily top-ended acid tweaks and we’re in the centre of somewhere completely new.  


Whether behind the decks or in front of a computer, Martin Lefteri has lived the life of a music obsessive. From digging through crates to DJing at clubs across the country and, ultimately as co-pilot of the Feel the Drive parties and NTS radio shows, he honed his skills and his instinct.  It’s an instinct that has also served him well as a producer. Through his work as Ondata with Feel the Drive co-pilot Szymek Lawik and his solo work for the Eclectics label, Martin’s approach to production is informed by his perspective as a DJ. The result is music that refuses to sit in the background, instead choosing to lock you into a landscape. These are not tunes to suit a mood, they’re compositions that create them
